The Walk-a-Thon is a longstanding, annual tradition at St. Therese School. It takes place in the early fall and is one of our biggest fundraisers that keeps our school thriving.
What do the students do on the day of the Walk-a-Thon?
On the day of the Walk-a-Thon, the students walk laps around the school. They are given a sticker/stamp on their Walk-a-Thon card each time they complete a lap. The students are allowed to dress down in school spirit wear the day of the Walk-a-Thon (Walk-a-Thon t-shirts will be sold). Tennis shoes are a must for walking! They enjoy a picnic lunch outside with their friends and classmates and end the day with a treat from Rita’s or Kona Ice.
How does it work?
Students are asked to get monetary sponsors (ex. local businesses, grandparents, aunts, uncles, relatives, neighbors, ANYONE, etc.). Their sponsor will then give them the amount pledged times the amount of total laps walked. For example, if Grandma pledges to give $2 for every lap and I walk 14 laps, Grandma will then give a $28 donation towards our Walk-a-Thon goal. Flat donations are also welcome!
What are some of the things the money raised for Walk-a-Thon goes towards?
The money from the Walk-a-Thon goes towards our fundraising goal for the year ($150,000) which helps with our school’s day-to-day operations, such as electricity, water, supplies, repairs and maintenance. The money is also used for technology expenses, such as, Chromebooks for new students, repairs on existing Chromebooks and updated technology in the classrooms. As I’m sure you are aware, since we are a private school, we do not receive any funding from the state. All of the fundraisers at our school are used to cover the costs to keep our school up and running, all thanks to the amazing families at St. Therese School!
What about lunch on Walk-A-Thon day?
We will be offering a $5.00 pizza lunch for the Walk-a-Thon. The lunch will include 2 slices of pizza (from Costco), a bag of chips, fruit snacks, and water. Staff and volunteers will also be able to order a pizza lunch. If your child does not wish to purchase a lunch, they may pack their lunch or choose a salad or pb&j from the lunch menu. If you would like to order a pizza lunch for your child(ren) please click the link below and send your cash or check payment into the school office, marked with your child's name. PLEASE COMPLETE LUNCH SIGN UP REGUARDLESS OF LUNCH CHOICE FOR EACH STUDENT. LUNCH CHOICES DUE BY SEPT 24th (link on left sidebar of page)
Because this is a fundraiser, the prepaid lunch accounts on FACTS CANNOT be used to purchase the PIZZA lunch.
Does the school need help that day?
